Tag Tuesday: Book Blog Newbie Tag

I saw this tag on Jenniely, and decided to do it as I am new to book blogging.

1. Why did you start this blog?

I had other blogs on and off, never being consistent. I think that was because I was trying to write about things that I am not truly passionate about. But I knew that I wanted to keep a blog. So I asked myself, what is something I can do consistently? I spend most of my free time reading, watching Netflix, and listening to music, so that’s what I’ll blog about.

2. What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?

I am Korean, born and raised in Seoul. More and more books are translated and published overseas these days. For example, The Vegetarian by Han Kang won Man Booker Prize not too long ago. I can provide a Korean perspective on these books. Perhaps discuss Korean culture in relation to those books or critique the translation. That’s something I’m looking forward to do.

3.What are you most excited for about this new blog?

Connecting with other bloggers, sharing my thoughts, having discussions, and getting to geek out over books together.

4. Why do you love reading?

Whenever I read fiction I’m just infatuated. It’s hard to explain. I identify with the characters and devour their stories. I like non-fiction as well because they are informative and I love being knowledgeable.

5. What book or series got you into reading?

My father is an avid reader (people call him “the book guy” because he’s always got a book with him), and my mother always read to me as a child. My childhood home was full of books and not that much else. Reading has always been a natural part of my life. So really, my parents got me into reading. The first book/series I remember getting in to is Harry Potter series.

6. What questions would you ask your favourite authors?

I am an amateur writer as well so I’d ask mostly writing related questions. How much do you write a day? How do you research for your writing? How do you edit? Things like that.

7. What challenges do you think starting a blog will be the hardest to overcome?

Posting consistently and regularly is what I struggled with in the past. I am hoping that I’ll be more consistent this time around. Another challenge I think I’ll face is running out of what to write about. Hopefully my creativity won’t fail me.

8. When did you start reading?

I learned to read before I was three years old, I think. I started choosing my own books to read in elementary school library. Before then I just read whatever my parents gave me.

9. Where do you read?

Everywhere, anywhere. I love to read on subways. I even read at work when things are slow. Don’t tell my supervisor! When I’m home I usually read on my bed, which is by the window, with a cup of coffee or tea.

10. What kind of books do you read?

I read half-and-half mix of fiction and non-fiction. In the fiction department, I like 20th Century women writers and contemporary young adult novels. I tend to gravitate towards authors who are Asian women and other women of color as an Asian woman myself. In the non-fiction department, I love reading memoirs. I read science books because I studied physics in university. I also read a lot of books on feminism.
