My “To Re-read” List

I hardly ever re-read anything, but I’ve been feeling that I should. A lot of former favourites are fading from my memory. Also, growing up, I read a lot of originally English books in Korean, and I want to read the original. So I decided to re-read the following books.

Rosie and Skate by Beth Ann Bauman

Out of all the books I read in high school, this one is the most memorable. Still, I am forgetting most of it and I want to refresh my memory. In my memory it was such a beautiful book and I hope I feel the same when I re-read it.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

This book is a classic, and as a child I read it in Korean because that’s what my mom bought. I would love to get sucked in the magic, this time in its original language.

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

Another book I read in Korean. I still liked it in Korean, but I want to read the original writings of Burgess.

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favourite, favourite authors. I read my favourite book of hers, The Bean Trees, in English, but I read The Poisonwood Bible in Korean as that’s what my university library had. Recently I found a copy of it at a second-hand bookstore, and bought it instantly.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller

I read it in 10th grade English class, but I don’t remember much other than it’s about the witch trials. My primary reason for re-reading it is that I need it as a research for the novel I am writing. Now I wish I’d studied it harder in 10th grade. I did get an A, but I don’t remember much from that class!

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Even though I got good score at Accelerated Reader test in 11th grade, I barely remember anything about this book. My sister is reading it now, so it would be a good opportunity for us to have discussions about it. Since she is reading in Korean, it would also be great to compare the two editions.
